Oh yes. I am tried of the MAN telling me why the gas prices are going up. I spend triple of what I use to once Bush got into office. I would love to put corn in my tank. And now with all this crap going on in the Middle East, I am really thinking about getting a bike!

Look there is nothing wrong with being dependent on foreign oil. We have commodities also that they are dependent on as well such as wheat, beef, not to mention technology. Thats what's called balance of trade.
It all boils down to supply and demand which is also traded on the open market under speculative (future) dates. thats what drives up oil pricing. Do you think OPEC sits back and says "Ok guys what will we make the price of oil today". No honey, it doesnt work that way.
Now the question is why is oil pricing so high? well for one, its high in demand due to a number of reasons which are:
1. Chinas robust growing economy that is having a sustained growth of 5.5% per annum.
2. India's growing economy
3. Most obvious is the tensions in the Middle east.
4. Capacity problems in producing gasoline (refinery issues)
5. Investors who are speculating all the time thus pushing up pricing.
Now, to answer your question, go ahead and use that white lightning and enjoy sipping it occassionally as well- Nothing wrong with it. But before you do, understand one thing! that our oil companies namely Exxon/Mobil and Others are price hiking all the time as well which, is evidenced by their audited financials where they are racking in historic record profits !! feel free to check out there annual report depicted below.
Have a nice day:)

Ethanol is not a viable alternative to fossil fuel. The fact is, if every farmer in the United States were to grow switchgrass (a sugar producing plant more efficient then corn for making fuel) for the production of Ethanol, and I mean every single farmer no matter what they currently produce, the amount of Ethanol that could be produced would only supply enough fuel to replace the United States fossil fuel consumption for 1 month out of the year. Even at this rate, the cost of producing Ethanol is so significant that it would cost Consumer approximately $11.00 per gallon of fuel when compared to the current price per gallon of fossil fuel. In addition, Ethanol releases a huge amount of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere when it is burned. In comparison to the carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuel, ethanol releases 5 times more. Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere creates a green house effect on the earth, meaning heat is trapped and cannot escape from the earth's surface. As more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere from burning ethanol, the earth's surface will continue to hotter and hotter (global warming). We would in essence be shooting ourselves in the foot, because increased surface temperatures from the green house effect would damage the switchgrass crops we are growing to produce the ethanol in the first place. As you can see, ethanol is neither cost efficient or a healthy alternative to fossil fuel.

No, not really because we are going from major taxpayer subsidies of the oil industry to major subsidies of Archer Daniels Midland (and other big agri-businesses who grow the corn). Our slimy politicians in DC are paying these corn producers WAY more than that corn is worth (with our money of course).
We need solar and wind power and take power out of the hands of the big energy companies.
