There is a leak in the cooling system. It could be a hose, the water pump, the radiator, the heater core, a freeze plug, or a head gasket. Have the cooling system pressure tested to find the source of the leak!!

It could be the water pump. You won't notice coolant when the car is running because the fan will blow it all over the engine.

If the bearing goes bad in the water pump it leaks coolant out a little hole by the shaft that connects to the fan. They put that hole there to let you know when the pump bearing goes bad.

I would NOT drive the car until the mechanic looks at it. It could be just overheating from the air conditioning. If it is the water pump, on a pickup it is under $100. Slightly more than that for passenger cars.

No possible way to answer your question except to tell you that you need to have it fixed right away.Especially if you have that young child with you.Take it to a good shop and have them pressurize the cooling system and then find the source of the leak and correct it.Also you need to do it ASAP as it is now low on coolant (if you have not refilled it) and will overheat and cause major engine damage if left unrepaired. Good luck and do it soon!

You have a leak in the hose. That happened to me and I had to flush the coolent with water and antifreeze to find the leak. You can get tape to fix it or replace the whole hose.
