Yes, exactly. When I was in HS and taking US and world history, I used to wonder why the Germans supported Hitler and the Nazis and did nothing about them, or why Nazi soldiers committed the attrocities they did.
Now I know, and like the average German citizen in the late 30s and early 40s, I am doing nothing.

American people are not like the German cititzens of 1939. The American public will not put up with mass murder based on race or religion. They don't have a desire to expand into other countries either.
I would say the Amercian people are more like they were in 1939. Some Americans knew what had to be done but there was an attitude that it wasn't are problem. Until things started heating up (aka Pearl Harbor) the American public hadn't faced the realty of the situation yet. The same can be said today. The war on terrorism needs to be continued, but some people (mostly liberals) don't have the stomach to do what needs to be done.

i've wondered where and how far this could go. i'm just waiting for Bush to declare emergency powers in order to save the world from terror.
As to the objections raised by others, one cites 911 as a spark of things saying Germany lacked a spark. The assasination of the Archduke, is generally seen as the excuse or even reason for the the begining of an escalating conflict of WW2 that is much more complex than most imagine.
Another says the US would not condone mass executions, here it gets a little tricky and depends on who and what you believe, some say that the large scale executions came late in the war and were a response to starvation in the prison camps. So imagine a WW3, in 5 more years US alone against the world, losing, poor and starving, What will US military leaders choose to do with millions of muslims starving in thier cells? Let the enemy out, let them starve to death or give them a quick death. Once the fever and fear takes everyone there is no telling where it will go.
Not that anyone is a sheep but things are much more involved than a five minute spot on the news cares to tell.

What? Do smoke your breakfast, lunch and dinner because this is tripe...
No, we are not in the same situation...
1. There is no gathering of people (gypsies, Jews, etc...) being lead off to death camps.
2. We are not ruled by a fascist dictator - that other member would have been shot if that were the case.
3. We are not trying to dominate the world, we are trying to stabilize an area of the world that is and has always been a problem. (They're a few spoiled rotten children that have been abusing both their people and the kindness of other nations - a FACT in simple terms so that you can understand.)
Everyones life on this planet depends on the cooperation and mutual agreement between all nations... this name calling "feel sorry for me BS" is getting old.
This questions is a bad argument.... why, didn't just ask if Bush still beats his wife.
Poor ignorant sole.

Have you studied history or do you get your information from other liberals.
There is no compression. Germany was in a terrible economy (no the USA is not you look at the numbers and our economy is the envy of the world) Yes we have more security measures now but last I checked I can still read, watch, or say what ever I please. I can go to church, mosque or synagogue. There are no book burnings or press restrictions. You can criticize the president, congress or the Judaical system with out fear of someone coming for you in the night
. So NO we are not in the situation as 1939 Germany

I hope not, I lived in Belgium and my father in 1938 prepared for war by joining an underground movement which lasted all through the war. He felt that was the best he could do at the time. He spied on German engineers in our factories. However there was nothing a small country like us could do. We were lost in a week with very little battle. I hope that Bush does one thing right and starts to be a negotiator for peace in all the regions. Maybe that is too much to ask.

No. Different eras of time....can't compare that. German did not 'just go along with it'....and there was no such thing as taking the easiest option either. It was either you join the army or you get killed like the rest. What would you do if your own government would not give you the freedom of choice?
You need to brush up on your history knowledge otherwise you would not have asked that question!

It is not even remotely the same. Too bad you feel like you have to insult the American people. The United States has done great things for many nations. We are the land of immigrants. The land of the free.

No, you imbecile! No one blew up 3000 people in Berlin in 1939. We are retaliating against a terroristc foe, who struck us in our balls while we weren't looking.
Adolf Hitler lied when he claimed that the Polish cavalry attacked his elite armor units, provoking the destruction of Poland.
