You are all punks, aren't you?

Kidding.

People still think that because, for the longest time, the most visible skateboarders *were* punks. They were the loudest, most trouble-making, and they were the ones that brought skateboarding into the mainstream. Since they and skateboarding were associated with each other for so long, people still tend to think that way.

Because most of you are?! Remember sterotypes exist for a reason. It may be wrong to stereotype people but you'll find that a majority of skateboarders are punks obviously as with every steroetype there are exceptions to the rule.

A lot of skateboarders are punks. Get off public property and stay out stores, then the "punk" wrap wouldn't be so easy to assign.

We have a whole group of skateboarders living near our home...
Our driveway is at a very steep grade and enters out onto a street access where there is a parking lot across the street from our home...
Needless to say it makes for a great ramp to launch oneself off onto for skating...

My problem with that is, they come onto my property and endanger my car in my driveway and my plants on the sides of the driveway...

Now if they are not professionals, which they are not, they can get hurt on my property, and then I am in trouble if that happens...
I also don't want them banging into my car since it is a new car...

I watch them and see them fall and the skateboards go flying in every direction and they can hit anything in their path..
I have talked to them and tried to get them to quit, but they say the street is not my property and they can do as they please...
I said they are right, but I don't want them using my driveway as a launch...
They have come too close to falling on my car or hitting it with the skateboards...
I don't think those guys will admit they caused any damage or would be willing to pay if I don't watch them...
I have called the police as well and the police say they have no right to be on my property...
So it's not that I don't like the guys, I don't want to start a fight..
I would like to watch them and get along...
It's just that they are not careful in where they land or what they hit if they fall...
I don't want my new car hit by a flying skateboard and I have a right to not have that happen...

I don't.

Sometimes you guys are just too loud, and may be a little irritating; like wanting to show off and get some extra attentions. Otherwise, most of you guys just want to have fun and enjoy skateboardings. Have fun, but think of others; especially young kids who think you guys are kool; but their parents think you are bad influence with the kind of dressings, and bad hair-cuts.

Skateboarders can have a clean image while having fun too!

I think that a few people have given the whole group a BAD reputation. In our city they cut out in front of cars, dress like they 'want to be black kids' and are loud with fresh mouths.....

Now, there are a younger group of kids out there the want to ride and have fun and 'show their stuff' but let me tell you, I do not let my 12 yr old even go to the skate park because of the above bad influence.

The only way change will happen in peoples attitudes is for the change to come from the skateboarders who need to clean up their stuff................

Sorry.

People stereotype. Why I have no idea. Used to be tradition in high school that all the skate boarders were also into punk rock and stuff. So they were "PUnks" like others were "goth".
When you're out of school, those lables don't exist anymore. People become just people..

Because you dress like punks. That's our first impression of you. I agree not all of you are punks but what is the point in skateboarding? It always seemed so stupid to me.

Some of you are.

Personally, I don't. I accompanied my nephew on a skateboard shoot in San Francisco and found that they were not these aimless drifters with a zero education, but a group of skilled performers (I could not bring myself to use the word 'athletes') who were quite versed in The Way of the Board.
