Sounds like pretty much the reasons we would not want him in our Order. Perhaps that is how he perceives it right now. Perhaps that is what he feels comfortable explaining to you. I hope he gets some guidance on that before he joins.

Freemasonry truly is about improving oneself but not in those terms. It is, at least in my Order - American Co-Masonry - about becoming a better person and about helping others. Then again, Freemasonry gives to those what they bring to it.

I am not sure what your question is, but I hope that you get a chance to talk with Freemasons in his prospective Lodge and ask them some questions directly. That usually is part of the process.

BTW, I will now put a disclaimer on my posts so as not to have other Freemasons feel wronged. I am an American Co-Mason. We hold charter not from the English but from the French Grand Lodges. We admit both WOMEN and men of all faiths and races to all rites and ceremonies. We are more esoteric, I am told by masculine rite Masons.

The Mason's are a fraternal organization, members do help each other out when they can and it is a good place to make business contacts. They do have secret initiation rites and such but it's harmless. Really an excuse to play pool and hang out at the lodge more than any thing else,

Perhaps 50 years ago it might have helped somewhat, because there were so many men joining the Freemason, but nowadays there are a lot less and it's not as influential an organization as it used to be.

I am sure he believes this to be true, but he should be joining to make himself a better man. At any rate, you shold support him because only good can come out of it. The Masons will teach him to be a better man and husband.

The masons is a good old boys club that may well help him in life! My humble opinion is that you should hold your husband in high regard! Encourage him to follow his instincts!
Not joking here! He seems like an aware man!

If that is his reason for joining, then I sincerely hope it is exposed and he is not admitted. It is true that we have a tendency to help one another, as all fraternites do, but we do not welcome men who try to join for mercenary motives.
