Why does the Pentagon & the American media focus on getting the Americans out of Lebanon & not out of Israel?

Thus far, the fighting is constrained to a relatively small geopgraphic region. For comparison, the area of Lebanon is only 4035 square miles and the area of Israel is only 8019 square miles. By contrast, the area of the State of Maryland (located in the northeast USA) is 12,417 square miles.

The border between Israel and Lebanon is irregularly shaped and only about 40 miles long. Although the terrorist organization Hezbollah is primarily active in southern third of Lebanon (because that's the part of Lebanon closest to Israel), it relies on infrastructure distributed throughout Lebanon.

Hezbollah does not have an air force to strike deep into Israel, but it has been attacking Israel with missiles having a range of at least 50 miles. The sophistication of such missiles is well beyond the capability of a terrorist organization not supported by a territorial state.

Look at a map of the Middle East: Americans in Israel can, at least for the time being, flee to southern Israel -- where they should be well out of the range of Hezbollah missiles.

Because the Lebanese government has not worked to crush Hezbollah, but has instead coddled that terrorist organization (it is to Israel what Al Qaeda is to the USA), both International Law and the internationally recognized and accepted Rules of War make *almost* everything in Lebanon a legitimate target.

That Israel has shown extraordinary restraint is an exceedingly great understatement; however, as long as Americans remain in Lebanon, there is a real risk to them -- not only from the possibility that they might become collateral casualties in Israel's War Against Terror, but also from the very real possibility that they might become pawns in the terrorists' deadly games.

Israel claim it must be the super power in the middle east, Israel is doing the same that America are doing round the would in the middle east by grabbing it neighbor lands and declare war on them. so simple cuz amrican and israel is almost one country they support each other so if amrican was in lebanon then israel well destory everything in lebanon and amrican people well die but if they was in israel they well be safe plus they wanna get them out becuse they want israel to destory lebanon so they already know what israel gonna do and ofcourse ...they should stop israel..but no...there supporting israel to kill the kids and womens and poor people who didint do nothing...and i think thats bad terrorist of israel side...they should figoure a solution with lebanon goverment cuz there the stronger side...not by war...like if i was ur dad as israel and u was my daugther as lebanon and u didi something wonrg..i wont come and hit u so hard...to teach u the bad from right....i would sit with u ...and tell u that and make u understand in a nice way..

Maybe because Americans has protected so much the Israeli's values that had caused the impression of Americans and Israelis are one or becoming a part of the same thing. Therefore, isn't necessary to get Americans out of a place that has been protected by them as their own place.

USA is pro Israel. Israel can crush Lebanon if it wants to. Israel is therefore much safer.

'Cause we're buddies with the Israelis, whereas the folks in Lebanon don't really want us in their homeland at all. Hell, after all the millions and millions of dollars, if not more, we've poured into Israel, they'd better not try and tell us to do anything.
