I just installed Norton SystemWorks and now my computer is slower and I have problems getting online. I had to remove yahoo messenger to get my system to work, and it is still slower than before by a very noticeable amount. I bought the stuff to make sure my system ran well, not worse. I want to have system protection, but that's useless if the system doesn't work right! Any suggestions or answers would be appreciated.

You may have another anti virus or an older version of the Norton on your system. You need to uninstall both and reinstall the new norton. ASAP. Your norton is seeing the old virus protection and reading it as a virus. It is a matter of a few days and your computer will isolate itself and shut down.
I did this to myself. You are exhibiting the same symptoms. Work quick, or pay the repair guy.

I ended up with Avast by Lavasoft. It works better and it is free for personal use. I highly recommend it. I no longer have trouble with virus, worm or crashing. It is so cool!

Norton does not play well with others.
I get around most conflicts by turning off Norton.
Using other firewalls, email checkers etc.
& Only use Norton 4 specific operations.
Right now I wish I could give U more of an explaination but I didn't set my system up & computers give me a headache.

This is just cos you said every sugestion is welcome.I donn't claim to be a wizzkid but found out before that they rarely answer these questions and prefer to keep their knowledge to themselves.
My guess is you maybe have other protection programmes still running and Norton is highly sensetive to this and prefers all other protection software to be removed before installing.
It is alo fact that two or more virusscanners can seriously slow down your system cos they could be working against eachother.
Hope this helped you somewhat.

Do you have any other security suites running on your computer? This happenned to me yesterday. I had previx1 running and Nortons insalled, but disabled. And my pc was super slow, even from my start menu. Then I went on a mission trying to uninstall previx, finally got it done and luckily now its working perfect. But with both softwares installed my computer wouldn't even shutdown or restart. I got really scared, cause it would freeze and I would have to unplug it, cause the power button didn't work either. But thats all fixed now. Currently, I am using Nortons and my pc isn't a bit slow.

I can't tell you why it slows your computer down, I don't know why. I do know that it did the same thing to me, so I removed it from my system and replaced Norton with McAfee. The McAfee security suite comes with all the same things the Norton suite did at about the same price, but I have no operating problems with McAfee.

All NORTON Products eat more physical RAM making the PC slower!
If you have more than 1GB RAM on your PC...then only install Norton Products...

Else go for AVG, ZoneAlarm & System Mechanic as replacement softwares instead of SystemWorks!
Check AVG: http://free.grisoft.com
Zonealarm: http://www.zonelabs.com
System Mechanic: http://www.iolo.com

Enjoy!

Because Norton sucks and it takes up so much space on a computer.
