I am one of those people. As I write this, there are at least 3 mosquitoes hovering about the room in which I'm sitting.

Firstly, it has nothing to do with the sweetness of one's blood--an old wive's tale just like all the rest. It has everything to do with the scent you give off. It is already well known that mosquitoes have an extremely keen sense of smell and now scientists are beginning to pinpoint the chemical or chemicals to which they are most attracted. You may have observed empirically how little or much you may be getting bitten in comparison with those around you. Masking your 'scent' helps to some extent. For about 15 minutes after a shower, I'm in the clear, but a little after that, they're back after me. Coils help, but emit some harmful toxins in the process. DEET is known to be carcinogenic at high levels and low concentration solutions aren't so effective. The best remedies are natural - for your body, there's lemon eucalyptus oil which is about as effective as low concentrations of DEET and then there are citronella candles, effective, but only cover a small area if you plan to use it outdoors. Also, if you can avoid scratching your bites, the irritation tends to go away very quickly. This is all from extensive personal experience and research. Good luck, my friend.

Yep, it's mostly to do with potassium in the blood. If you don't want to get bitten, take up smoking or snuff, this will saturate you with nicotine and the little blood-suckers will tend to avoid you. (Nicotine is a natural pesticide...that's why various plants, including tobacco, produce it). On the other hand, tobacco isn't healthy, so maybe a bottle of Cutter's repellent is the way to go?

Mosquitos are attracted to certain scents. I get bitten by mosquitos like crazy while those around me may not. They are especially attracted to certain perfumes, especially floral ones.
