I was watching a movie last night where a veteran cop (black) kept calling his rookie partner (white) "my ******". Why is it okay for a black person to use that term but it's considered racist if one from another race uses it? If a black calls another black ******, does this not make him a racist against his own people?

I've never used the word myself, I'm just wondering, if blacks don't like that term, why do they use it themselves?

It does seem racist, and hypocritical. I find the term offensive. I can relate to those who say they use the word to own it and reduce its power, but they're being hypocritical by resenting someone else's use of the word.
Some people find the words "queer" or "******" offensive. I am gay, I use those words, but I don't react to people who are not LGBT using them. By using them and accepting them, the words have no emotional impact. Obviously the same has not been achieved with the "N" word.

Only Ignorant People Use The Term N*gger. Dont Be One Of Them. If You Do....You Will Be Bringing The Wrath Of A Violent Psyco --path Down On You That Has Nothing To Do But Go To Jail Behind Assaulting or Cutting Someone Under The False And Misguided Sense Of Hearing His Race Disrespected With That Word. Dont Use It. You Will Be Setting Your Self Up To Be Shot, Knifed, Jacked, Beaten or Anything Else A "self-righteous" Black Person Might Want To Do To You Because He Heard You Use That Dirty, Filthy, Insulting Word.

I believe it's a way for that culture to show that it is family to each other. It's sort of like being in your own family. You can talk about a sibling or even call names at each other. However, let some outsider do that and chances are you will be right in their face! I don't think it's really any thing more than this culture demonstrating it's union. However, the more time that goes by, they will eventually flow into the general public.
I have many friends today, younger then myself, who are in inter marital relationships. They have children half African American and European American. (By the way, I totally love the color of their skin!)
I wouldn't let it bother me. If you really want to say the word, say it when you are all alone! LOL

Well white people used to use the word "N word" to refer to black people. So if a white person were to use that against black people now, it would be considered racist. Either way the word is really stupid because overall it means "ignorant person". So if you call someone a "N word" you are basically calling them ignorant.

Its not OK to use the term by anyone towards anyone if it over the years has evolved to become a derogatory word/term , as with any derogatory term it should not be used against others. No exceptions, those that choose to use the ****** word blacks or whites are demoralizing themselves and their parents and or their children.

It's a cultural thing. And, a testament to our country's history. It's never been acceptable in the black community for a white person to call a black person a ******. It began as a derogatory remark and it hasn't evolved.

I have asked that question myself (not on here). The "N" word seems to draw the wrath of blacks except when another black person says it. Maybe we white folks need to go around calling each other "Honky", then beat up on blacks who dare use this word on us...

It does. That's the whole point that intelligent black leaders like Jesse Jackson have been trying to make for years.
