you can also go to captiveanimals.org and see how people train or "break" the animals

i also suggest you go to the elephant sanctuary.com watch the news clips and read what elephants go trough you can't argue that it isn't right!! what the sanctuary is doing is in the animals best intrest-- NOT the elephant center that ringling bros. supports-- thats where the video is from and ringling bros. supports their actions saying it's normal procedures!!

Circuses are a dying business.
I find them boring.
Some do not treat their animals as well as they should.
Having said that, I wouldn't believe anything that the zealots at PETA have to say.

I prefer: People Eating Tasty Animals.

actually PeTA has been known to edit and twist what is on their tapes. There are two sides to every story. I do not believe anything PeTA says...they have compromised their position too many times. How much money has PeTA given to making the elephants comfortable and providing for them not in the circus?

What if the elephants had 200 acres to roam on? A $5million facility that caters to *elephants*. PeTA didn't show that did they?
What about the conservation program? How much has PeTA contributed to elephant research? Since 2005 Ringling Brothers have contributed "more than $300,000 in funding to the Smithsonian Institution's National Zoological Park supporting research products on endotheliotropie herpes viruses, the single greatest health threat to the Asian elephant," They don't get that back.

Take a hard look at PeTA's use of funds - "PETA contributed $27,000 to the legal defense of Roger Troen for burglary and arson at the University of Oregon in 1986. In 1989, PETA informed its members of the payment.
PETA's 1988 Form 990. PETA contributed $7,500 to the legal defense of Fran Stephanie Trutt, convicted of possessing pipe bombs and prosecuted for the attempted murder of the president of a medical laboratory.
PETA's 2001 Form 990. PETA payed lawyer fees for animal rights criminals involving the North American Earth Liberation Front, an FBI-declared domestic terrorist organization. "
"In a 1992 report by the NCIB, National Charities Investigation Bureau, PETA spent 42% of its organizational expenses on fundraising. Only 20% on actual research and investigation in to animal cruelty."

What else are they hiding and what are those donations REALLY going for. In a word - marketing. It's not for the animals they are but a vehicle for donations.

Yes. Ringling still defends its actions re control and "training" of elephants. I also second the comment about checking out the Elephant Sanctuary website. It's a wonderful place for these intelligent, sensitive animals.

I have not gone to the circus since I was a child after learning that Ringling Bros uses only Asian Elephants which are on the endangered list. Their track record for caring for these animals has been abusive and neglectful. I will only go to a circus if it does not use animals (yes there are a couple out there that don't use animals). These are magnificent creatures that should be protected not taught to do tricks for profit. Thanks for getting the word out.

I do not agree with the idea that people put on a show of animals for peoples enjoyment. I am sure the animals love the interaction but i have to believe that there are times that they are doing things against their will. Saying that, it is really hard to know whether an animal is not enjoying it unless they are being physically abused then it is totally wrong and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that. Animals were not put on earth for people to laugh, ridicule and prod. This is disrespectful to me and the people doing it should have a heart.
