For my Human Growth and Development class it asks "Are the phenomena of the empty nest, boomerang children, the sandwich generation and grand parenting culturally dependent?" I really don't understand the culturally dependent.

Well of course it all depends on 'culture'...!! These things are all happening in the context of a 'culture'...The empty nest, boomerang children, the sandwich generation and grand parenting are also economically dependant, morally dependent and socially (government) dependant. It is hard to define the root cause of any social 'phenomenon'...there is evidence in the culture of a society in its actions, yes. The 'culture' may help cause such behavior to continue, but the root causes are complex...these things are all caused by humans adapting to the harsher economics, physical realities and stresses of modern life and the common culture just shows evidence of it.

It about how things are done around us nowadays.

You expect to get the light turns on when you turn on a switch. You don't necessary understand about power stations or how electricity is generated. You just expect to get light!

You expect water to run out from a tap; but you may not necessary how you can get clean water from turning on the tap.

In the past, long long time ago, the men went out to hunt; the women stayed home to cook and look after yound kids and old parents. Their roles are specific. Now you may have men at home and women out working to bring in the money. This is totally unheard of years gone by.

It means that people(most people Not all) now a days, couldn't survive if all the stores closed and that is to include the grocery stores they would be lost Not knowing what to do, they would either wait for help or they would get killed trying to help themselves or, even think that the stores would find a way to open again.. (& they wouldn't). And be Mad when they don't open saying they didn't know because no one told us.... anyway,,,,, that is culturally dependent
