Because, bootsales attract the special sort of person who is really, really cheap.
That sort of person would actually scan the "scratch and dented" rack of the supermarket to see if they can get canned peaches for .25 rather than .30 a can...and then ask to see a manager if they can get some more off the price because the label is peeling as well.

The people who go to the bootsales (in the USA they are referred to a Flea Markets) are looking for a bargain. If they wanted to spend a lot, they would go to a high end retail store. Because of the nature of the bootsale, sellers will always consider the buyers to be tightfisted, and buyers will consider the sellers to be asking too much!

The way the sellers see it is that you are getting rid of unwanted goods. Personally I prefer eBay, but even then people on there want something for nothing.
People on car boot sales are also buying to sell on for a higher price. I've had this happen...someone will buy something for a really cheap price and have it on their car boot sale for more!
Car boot sales are a fun day out to get rid of old things and making very little money for getting up at 6am on a Sunday morning.

Just looking for the best bargain, and ifthey can get you to drop the price a bit, then they go home happy. Best thing to do is to set the price a bit above what you really want, then they can bargain you down to the price you wanted in the first case. If they give you the price you originally ask, then you've made even more money.

Because the reason they go to car boot sales is to get something for virtually nothing.
In my experience, sellers often have an over-inflated idea of what their stuff is actually worth - so haggling is a necessity.

Maybe the sellers should be more realistic when pricing their items. The stuff is second hand, and like eBay, everyone who turns up to buy wants a bargain.

It's a matter of perspective. The buyers undoubtedly think that you're trying to steal their last nickel with your inflated prices.
