Here's the thing...Football players bring in tons of cash.
Luckily, they get a lot of the proceeds; but there is so much more being distributed to the "big dogs" (sorry don't know technical terms on that one).
the gov't brings in tons of cash as well. (as we all know from our taxes)...unfortunately, it just doesn't' get distributed to the men and women serving and fighting for our country as much as it should.
they are taken care of, just not so much financially.
Is it fair that soldiers get so little for doing so much?
Well, that is a question for your president.
As far as football players. . . good for them, for making as far as they did, and by helping our economy out with their entertainment.
Same story to any entertainer. Song, movies, authors....
Good for them.

A brief overview - supply and demand within (relatively speaking) free market economies, workers who earn far more over a career in other industries, opportunistic industrial magnates who simply happened to be there at the right place at the right time and be a big enough b@stard to bully and manoeuvre their way to the top of the rich list... I'm not sure I'd group lawyers in with doctors as a shining example of contributing to society... or, indeed, try to show ALL doctors in the same light, particularly those in the cosmetic surgery industries which are surely blighted by money hungry pr*cks aggressively seeking to monetize peoples' insecurities. Another important fact that you have overlooked is that an entertainer's income is far from certain, their shelf life is often limited to a decade or less at the highest level. Additionally, the vast majority who work within a particular entertainment industry do not reach the heights you speak of, and carve out a rather modest living until they can no longer perform and have to retrain, as they often possess little or no education or transferrable skills. Football generates huge revenues. Top footballers are in short supply, yet there is huge demand for a high quality product. Whilst you could argue that if ticket prices, TV subscriptions and merchandising prices were lowered for the consumer, that revenues would drop and therefore so would a top level footballer's wages to something akin to what you consider to be acceptable, it's obvious that it's just a fairytale - that everything is worth what the purchaser is prepared to pay for it. Hence the high prices, because there is always somebody willing to pay them. Now, if you accept this as the truth, ignoring an 'appeal to emotions', wouldn't you rather see the talent, i.e. the footballers pocket a large percentage of that revenue rather than almost all of it going to the board of directors?

Some good points so far.
A player on £100,000 a week pays £40,000 in tax so that's a good thing.
I don't agree they work "24/7". The average pro' trains 10 hours a week.
The top players are paid well because they bring success and that generates income to the club. Therefore the players want some of that. My employers made £19 billion last year, I want some!
Niall Quinn had a testimonial match and it paid him £1 million which he gave away to children's charities. Chris Powell, then of Charlton, spent Christmas day in a childrens hospice chatting to the kids , signing autographs etc. These decent acts never reach the tabloid press - it doesn't sell papers.
The players at Watford go to Chorleywood school to help train the schoolkids, lots of clubs do this but again, it's not good press.

helllo??....... where have you been these past years?? football isnt just "kick a ball on the pitch" its more than that. they train hard 24/7 willing to give up their own personal time. wat do u think they do when they train play hide and seek?? no!! they run laps, and do exercises to enhance speed - for running around the pitch for 90 mins, strength - to kick the ball hard to get it into the net. and if you wouldnt watch it so much they'd probably wont have as much money as they do today. so keep quiet if you aint gonna do anything about it. i agree ppl r working for the country and the world but thats how life is. some of us are born 2 b rich and famous and some of us not.
on the other side they pay more tax than us, tax goes to government to pay the people serving the country so... there ya satisfied?

They are well paid, they are also serving the country, they represent it, they are like ambassadors. Moreover it is very difficult to play at high level, only a small porcentage of the people who want to become football players can make it. In addittion they work only till they are 33 or 35, and they have to live the rest of their life with the money they receive now. And they don't only receive money from playing, they receive it also as being like artists, as the same as people from tv are well paid they appear on tv and the Tv pays quite well or showing them.

I think most professional players football, baseball, basketball are all grossly over paid. But they would not make that kind of moneyif we didn't watch.

Well, someone is willing to pay them, and you are willing to watch them, so they do get paid that much.
Soldier don't join to get rich, I know I was one. I really think you people are being socialist. If someone wants to pay them that much, then they can do as they please. As for highly paid soldiers, you couldn't afford a very large military.

yes it is ridiculous, they only deserve £100 or a bit more per person per day, but it is all about media these days, people forget about the nice people like the soldiers protecting our country - they deserve the most money!
