Well, technically, by the definition of the word "best" you can have only one since the word is a superlative meaning none better. But in the real world, I suppose a person can have two best friends. I have two friends I call my "best" friends.

I dont consider myself to have a best friend so the people I know are generally on a level pegging some more than others.

Yes, I have two. Both of them get along OK with each other, but consider me their best friend. And no, I'm not presuming that, both of them are painfully honest and always answer a question like that truthfully.
