This is coming from someone in the army right now stationed in Iraq. My mom also freaked out when i brought up the subject. An here is how i told her. I told her that I was old enough to make my own choices in life. That I wanted to do my part for this country and serve it proudly. America is my home and I want to protect my family and my country so her and my family could be safe and sleep at night. Now thats a little sensitive for some people, but it worked for me. And for the person talking about no supplies....im here right now and this is my 2nd time over here. you sound very ignorant when you say stuff like that cause u have no idea what u r talking about

Can't say I blame her. She doens't want you getting killed in a war. Basically though why not wait until you are old enough, and if the war is over then maybe the army would be ok and train you for a skill. Tell her you want to join the peace corps in the meantime, because that may be a choice that will train you and you will be doing some good at the same time.

Tell her that it's been your life long dream to die on foreign soil, without knowing exactly why you are fighting.

I say the following in the hope that it might actually save your life:
Don't enlist in the military. no matter what the army promises, you will be sent out in the front lines, and you will be shot. i've lost three friends, a cousin, and a co-worker in iraq. there are things that no one will tell you about. believe it or not, the army is very poorly supplied in the middle east. many soldiers leave every day for battle without the proper equipment. they usually have to buy things like body armor, or ammunition. it's hell, don't enlist. do anything else...

List the reasons why you want to join the army and why you think the army will be a good situation for you. Organize your thoughts, then talk to your Mom. If you're sensible and present things well, she'll be much more inclined to listen to you.

That's a tough nut to crack. If you really have a calling to serve your country in this noble way and have given it all the consideration this decision trully deserves then you've pretty much got to lay it out in front of your Mom in plan words. That's the price of being a man, I think you know this; you've got to do the things you don't like to get to where you've got to go. Good luck young Man, I hope you survive.

How may moms you have ? Please correct this to read Mom. It depends on your mother. If she has an Army background, she would create any problem. By the way, are you the only one in the family ? There is nothing wrong in joining the Army.
