Who feels that the whole toll road thing amounts to defrauding the public?

You bet they are. A large portion of our tax dollars state, and federal go to maintaining our roadways. How dare the Government consider selling what they tax us for already.

Look again - studies show here in TX it would take several years for TXDOT to build new hwy's whereas a private company could do it up to 75% faster. Your tax dollar, instead of being spent on a four year project, would be spent on the toll fee. And this way, only the users are paying for the road and not the people of the general public who may never use it. If there aren't US companies capable of building the road then I'd suggest you start lobbying against capital gains taxes.

No they are trying to put more tax money into the pocketbook. They sell the roads to other companies who have to maintain them, and who manage the tolls and such, the state in turn doesn't have to pay employees, benefits etc to the employees, overtime for road cleaning and such.

If we can get a more bang for our tax dollar I'm all for it. At least a private company won't have to carry dead weight employees for life, and then to add insult to injury give them a pension.
