You need to know the type of ram and size you will need. By type you need to know if it is SD, or D ram or any other type of ram. You will need to know the speed 300 Mhz? etc. Then you will need to know how much you need 512 MB? 1GB? Ram is really affordable right now.

You need to find out what your motherboard is capable of handling and if there are empty memory slots to put new ram sticks in. If there are no empty slots you can by bigger sticks for the existing spots. So if you have two slots with 2 250MB ram sticks for a total of 500 you can switch them out for 2 500's or 2 1Gig's or whatever your computer is rated for. Ram is really cheap to buy now and an easy upgrade but don't cheap out too much on new sticks because 'bad' ram can cause problems in your system.

You have to expand your RAM by buying more. Check your manufacturer, or visit http://www.CoastMemory.com . At CoastMemory, you can look up how much your computer takes and get the MAX. If you get memory that does not work, they will be happy to accept the returns and help you find what will really work.
Keep in mind that if you have 4 slots for memory, they usually have to be installed in identical pairs. So you might just seek memory to replace ALL that you have.
If you are running Windows 98, you should get 128MB.
If you have Windows 2000, try to expand to 512MB
If you are running Windows XP, try to expand to the MAX, or 2GB.
Good luck

If you have an extra slot, install another memory stick. Just make sure it's the same type as the one that's in there. Or replace the one you have with one that has more memory.
