Best way would be gloves and a garbage bag if you have to do it yourself.

There shouldn't be a big problem with getting a smell on you because for that to really happen you'd have to be sprayed. And suffice it to say that a dead skunk isn't going to spray you!

You might smell a little but it should go away with a shower.

Otherwise, the best folks to call would be either your city's Public Works dept. or Animal Control.

I would call animal control and have the skunk tested for rabies. This way they take the animal away and you can be sure you pond is safe.

I suggest burying it, so it can decompose and benefit the Earth. That way the smell will also be contained make sure the hole is a good depth say 1-2 feet, that way the smell won't leach through the soil too much.

Just let it rot. The stink will go away in about 3 days, but if you handle it you will not have friends for about 2 weeks.
