To keep in continuity with the other Lord of the Rings movies, he would need Ian Mcklellan, Ian Holm and Andy Serkis as the main characters. Both Ians are getting older.

Because he's got better things to do.. Working on three LOTR movies makes you kinda tires of the whole concept. Besides, he wanted to realise his childhood dream to remake King Kong.

I wondered that myself. But I think maybe the main reason might be the cutie pie factor. There is no Aaragorn inthe Hobbit. No Legolas, no hottie guy, which was a big draw for the teenie bopper crowd. Orlando Bloom and that Viggo dude are extremely easy on the eyes! The Hobbit-while it in a great story-has no heart throb in it.

Aside from that, I don't understand why he didn't begin at the beginning.

I heard somewhere that Pete is thinking about it. And it is in the talking stage. (whatever that means).

Anyhoo, just wait for 4 years, tops, and maybe they'll make The Hobbit.
