income tax was started to fund WWI and it was a "voluntary" tax at the time, it was also supposed to have I guess what you would call an expiration date for when it was going to stop, but go figure, our government saw how much money they were raking in and decided to amend the constitution and make it law so they could continue to rob us , the constitution states that no personal tax was to be placed on anyone , but what else would you call a tax that you are required to pay based on your personal income.

I actually work with a guy that does not pay income tax and he is not considered to be doing anything wrong. Be careful though, when you file paper work to the IRS to have them not take any taxes from you they can and will call your local municipalities and notify them that you do not pay taxes. So if you ever need the Fire Dept/Ambulance or Police they then in turn are not required to come out on that call, as the work for the taxpayers. So tread lightly and good luck.

Sort of. I remember filling out tax forms in the '80's when the form said "voluntary" on it. It no longer says "voluntary", they took that language out years ago.
There is not a specific law on the books that began a compulsory income tax. The income tax was started to fund WWI but it was a "voluntary" tax at the time. But there is a whole host of income tax law and court precedent that have evolved the system into a compulsory one. You can't get around taxes.
And....in reference to your previous question.....I don't know where you come up with the factoid that whites are outnumbered by hispanics in this country.....but that is, quite objectively, incorrect information. They will someday, but whites are a majority nationwide today.

The 16Th amendment to the constitution, allowes Congress to impose a progressive income tax on the people. The story you read is bogus. As much as I hate the concept of a progressive tax, it is legal. It has given rise to the state income taxes as well. All have been tested in many ways and the Supreme Court hardly even considers challenges to the income tax to have any merit.

It is in the US Code as authorized by the 16th Amendment. I would like to see the income tax replaced with a national sales tax. No filing, no record keeping, no excuse for snooping by our public servants. The Constitution prohibited the federal gov't from directly taxing the American people. Congress, in its wisdom, passed the 16th Amendment in 1913, along with the 17th (direction election of senators). They also gave us the Federal Reserve System in 1913, which gave them the ability to inflate debt certificates that circulate as currency. 1913 was not a good year.

Are you kidding. Taxes are more important in this country than murders. If you did not pay taxes you are screwed (the only country that can compare to that is Germany). Everyone has to report the accurate amount if income.

Wow ! Interesting. Can't wait till someone answers this question who knows.
Yeah I hear others stating that of course have to . .. but. . isn't there a thing where like if you don't make at least this much a year that you don't have to file because it is so low an amt. ? I think my mom said this. Some'in like 10,000 ayear or less, and it is a non-filer's form or don't even have to do anyting?
