I cancelled because the company handling the 200 dollar rebate is not honoring it. I would like to use pre-pay sim cards. Is it possible?

You'll only be able to use another SIM card or service if the phone has been UNLOCKED from T Mobile. Depending on how long you had T Mobile service they should extend you the courtesy of UNLOCKING it for you. This can usually be done by calling them directly and they'll walk you through the steps to unlock it. T Mobile is pretty good when it comes to unlocking their phones as a courtesy to their customers.
Plus if you're just looking to go pre-pay you should stick with T Mobile because they have the highest rated pre-paid service of all the carriers [in the USA].
