How to learn ArcGIS? There are so many ArcGIS books produced by ESRI. Which book is good for learning digitalizing the maps?

For digitalize, which software is better, MAPINFO or ARCGIS?

Thank all of you who will answer my problems!!!

ESRI's arcGIS is used by about 70% of all companies who use GIS. I would reccomend learning arcVIEW with a book called "GIS Tutorial" by Wilpen Gorr and Kristen Kurland. I comes with a 180 day trial of arcVIEW 9.0 so you can practice what you learn.

This is about the closest thing to a software user's manual that exists for the program.

Either is fine for learning to digitize maps. The main issue is learning to create correctly geo-rectified map layers with USEFUL relational data bases...that work. Pay attention to the fact that your base & resource maps may be on different projections as well, be sure to rectify these early on, it saves a LOT of headaches later on.

One other useful tip: practice, practice, practice.

Good luck.

If you can, take a class or two. ESRI offers courses, and I'm sure a community college or university around you probably does, too.
