Confidence in the Self is self confidence, and thinking that you are separate from your Self is ego, when a wave thinks it is separate from the ocean, it is ego. Knowing that you are the ocean as well is self confidence.

Ego is a stage of satisfaction of mind ,like 1) hunger stage 2) sex stage etc.
Self confidence is a matter of heart ,e.g. winning a toss gives confidence.
ego is better ,self confidence is a temporary thing , it comes and goes. ego pushes you to do better .

self confidence is to show to your self and others may be that you can do it. Ego is to show that only you can do it. self confidence makes you better. Ego crushed. Self confidence is necessary.
