Most likely the CMOS battery is dead or dying.

If you're not comfortable cracking the case on your tower or desktop, take it to a shop, it should be an easy fix and not too costly. The battery itself is about $2-$5 depending where you go. The hardest part will be finding the exact battery for your board. Even that shouldn't take more than a few minutes at Best Buy or someplace like that.

If you are comfortable doingit, it'll be the big round flat bettery on the motherboard. Though depending on your machine it might be hard to get to, since most manufacturers didn't expect their machines to last long enough before upgrading such that people would need to replace the battery. ;o] But it often happen when a machine has been in storage for a while. A few months or a year with no AC power. The battery basically just keeps the clock running while not connectedto AC power, etc.
