if you bought this from a trusted source i.e pc\world i would get back in touch with them,as this should not happen
to remove these notifications, you will see a white star in your taskbar, right click this and pick"change notifivation settings",you will then be directed to microsoft were you can change the settings, you will then be reminded that you wont be able to get updates, allthough you do
if your windows is a copy,i would leave it as it is,as the only things you cant get is ,internet explorer 7 beta, windows defender, media player 11,and these really are to do with "vista" anyway
just follow the instructions as i have explained and then wait until vista arrives, its not worth getting a new copy of xp,when it will be outdated in 8 months
good luck

When you updated Windows you downloaded Windows Genuine Advantage Validation along with Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool; the first is mandatory for some updates but the second can be removed. Your error message should then stop. Download this freeware tool RemoveWGA
- http://www.firewallleaktester.com/removewga.htm

You will be prompted to download the notification tool by windows automatic update; change your update settings to "notify but do not automatically download and install". Decline the update.

i started getting the same message 3 weeks ago but I've had my computer for over a year now. It was my cousin who installed the software for me but it was fine and the message only appeared a couple of weeks ago.
anyway I'll b waiting if sum1 gives a solution.
thnx.

p.s
zmazhar. i hav done wot u said & it worked and now the message stop appearing but wen i try to go onto windows update and search for new updates a message apperas sayin "To get updates, you must first validate your Windows software. Validation assures that you are using an authentic and fully licensed copy of Windows" when i click the yes button under that another message appears telling me that i hav non-genuine software.
any ideas ??

HERE'S THE SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM:

Often a genuine version is also misdiagnosed as a pirated one and the annoying messages keep on popping up. If that is the case, you can "undo" the change made by the Genuine Advantage tool by doing the following.

1. Open "My Computer"
2. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32
3. Locate "WgaTray.exe" and rename it to "WgaTray-disabled.exe" - note: you will not be able to delete it, but you can rename it.
4. Locate "WgaLogon.dll" and rename it to "WgaLogon-disabled.dll"
5. Open your task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)
6. Locate "WgaTray.exe"
7. End Task
8. Reboot

Credit goes to staysecurepc blog. Hope it works.!

Various options:-

1. reformat hard drive and start installation from scratch (you have to do this every 9 months or so anyway with windows)

2. throw machine out of window and get another

3. best still buy a Mac and run the Mac OS as it can run windows and MAc OS but lesser Computers cannot run the Mac OS..

first of all there is hope, guy, but first i have to say something to the A-HOLES who told you to go buy a copy like a dutiful corporate subordinate.

okay... are you guys microsoft employees or something? do you really think that there is no workaround this or do you think this guy is going to call microsoft and tell them that his best friend burned a copy of windows xp for him. i'm really sick of people jocking M$ and pointing the finger at everyone. go buy a real copy of microsoft. this is something that someone who knows nothing of computers would say. seriously. i really think that all of you "blokes" are stupid. and you need to go take your hundred quid and go donate it to the bill gates foundation. and then when your done with that get up off your knees while that geek is zipping up his fly and tell him how it tasted. you know what... you all are the reason that m$ is taking over. and it's not even in your own country... for shame england...

hey guy who had the problen with the Windows Genuine Advantage virus: go to this url: http://www.techreviewcentral.com/?p=35
let me know how this works out for you.

all you insensetive bastards who told him to **** off, you might want to try this page:

or if you have a paper towel ready for when you blow your load try:

Just ignore it. It means that your copy is a bootleg. You probably have a star in the bottom left hand corner along with your messenger buttons also....this is the same thing.

If you really want to get rid of it you need to go out and get a real version of windows.
