maybe the conflict began as a spiritual issue. This conflict has been going for so long, generation after generation. I fear the cause of "spirituality" has been lost a long time ago. At the risk of sounding simplistic, it seems to me it is all about winning control. Control of what and why I do not understand. I truly pray for all those souls caught in the middle.

No. Jerusalem is an important city in Islam, but not to the degree that is is to Judaism or Christianity. And if Iran threatens to nuke Israel, wouldn't all the "sites holy to Islam" also become radioactive ash for centuries? Or does than maniac in Teheran not care as long as Israel is destroyed?
Using the concept of "jihad", holy war has always been a mainstay for fanatical Islamic leaders as a reason to kill for the sake of killing.

1)No event in the world is unidimensional. Spiritual control is one thing.
2)Next is the irrational belief we humans entertain and the difficulty to change ourslves from the past actions. There was fight in the Middle East for centuries and simply they find it difficult to stop
3)Then the geopolitical element with an eye on oil is definitely there
4)Lack of a leadership with a human touch as well as broadmindedness

Its rooted more in Islamic Fundametalism than anything else...Islamic Fundamentalists will not allow non-believers to live without submission to archaic Islamic ideals.

That being said, the Jews really could have picked a better spot...I mean Israel? Come on, who wants to live next to a powder keg?

this war has been present for a long time already... if we are to judge now, thousands of reasons have already been accumulated.. that includes spiritual control, revenge, vendetta, pride and all sorts of reasons one can think and learned from their sorrows. too many lives have already been spoilt, and this will just make it hard for peoples of these nations to forgive and forget.
