I wouldn't do this to stop terrorism, I'd do it because it's the right thing to do.

Firstly, I'd end our nation's pattern of being the police of the world and institute a policy of national defense as opposed to national offense.

I'd institute a policy where we would only attack another country if attacked, or threatened with the real possibility of an attack. In that case I would avenge with such a fury as to let it be known that nobody should attack us lest they be destroyed. All the while not getting cocky with such a statement as to become taunting.

Terrorism may continue in other places in the world where they do not follow such a defensive policy, but that would be the consequence to their actions and they would need to take personal responsibility for having such a policy in place.

There is only one good terrorist, that's a dead terrorist. I don't know why some people have such a hard time understanding the basic facts about terrorism.

You cannot ignore terrorists they are not going to just go away.

You cannot bargain with terrorists, their stated goals are simple - They are either going to convert you or kill you.

Modern terrorism as it relates to Islamic fanatics is about a religious dogma. It defies reason, ignores common sense, and leaves no room for compromise. This is not to say that all Muslim are fanatics because they are not, but the ones who are fanatical are dangerous period.

I love people who hold this idea that if we leave them alone they will leave us alone. Just ask Spain and Canada if they believe this is true anymore. Frankly I hope people wake up before it is too late.

You can ignore terrorism at your own peril, but I am not willing to gamble with my safety.

It is an impossibility.

I don't believe that "terrorism" will ever subside even if the US / UK pulls out completely from foreign soil tomorrow - those who think so are short-sighted, naive and ignorant.

Countries in the Mid East and elsewhere would love to be able to develop nuclear capability free of foreign interference. If they have achieved what they want, do you think the nukes are designed for self defence? They would threaten, terrorise whole countries including the US and Europe (cradle of Christian civilization).

The "war on terror" is now appropriately fought with more countries (including islamic) forming pacts to counter this scourge of society. And if you are one of those still searching for the definition of "terrorism" then you are "with them" - taking the side of evil.

Fact is, you can't. I'm not a supporter of terrorism, but the truth is as long as there are those who will perpetrate the acts, the acts will be perpetrated. There will always be rapes and rapists to commit them, same with murder and, as you just asked about, terrorism. There is no possible way to stop it, even by punishment. No matter what you or anyone does, there will always be crime and atrocities, one of them being terrorism.

All I know is that it would have been really constructive to concentrate on the Afghan-Pakistan border area, where bin Laden is still likely to be found, than to march us into the never-ending quagmire of the Middle East like the axis of evil (CHENEY and bush) chose to do. Now we've squandered our initial world-wide sympathy following 9/11, we've created gazillions of jihadists who view us as warmongering imperialists, and we've lost our chance to kill bin Laden and have him viewed even by most Moslems as an element of the lunatic fringe. If and when we do find and kill that dirtbag, he'll become a heroic, maybe to some even a saintly, Islamic legendary figure. Bush should've stayed in that Florida classroom, reading. Obviously nothing much sank in (that money can't buy) while he was partying his way through the ivied halls.

First we'd have to get 6 1/2 billion people to agree on a definition of terrorism...but if we could do that...I think that the problem would go away by itself.

There is no real answer to this Question, unless the terrorist recognize the fact that nothing gets settled by violence.
We have had this problem over the years ,in Latin America , in Ireland, in the middle east and over 300 years before in Europe.
Put your hatred behind you and trust your people and government - we know that is not easy??

The only thing the everyday man, or woman can do is to report suspicious activty to the proper authorities. Beyond this, you will have to play policeman, or soldier.
