I have experience with the animals and i'm ready to help raise them on my own. Is an aquarium (with a top to make it 3 stories or one that is super big) be ok to raise the little ones? I can't seem to find anything that is smaller than an inch so they cannot escape. If an aquarium isn't good...what are some suggestions?
Oh yes and don't give me this crap on why I shouldn't breed chinchillas. I'm doing it as a hobby....not for the money or to overpopulate. I plan only to keep a small stock of 6 (no more than 8) at a time. Also....its not like people don't breed just to raise a child. Look how many human kids are in shelters. :P

They will be moved once they are big enough to not be able to move through the holes

My main concerns would be size and ventilation.
It would take a seriously huge aquarium to be big enough for a chinchilla, at least 30 gallons or so (a 20 gallon aquarium for a full grown chinchilla is to small, I hope he lets it out often). Even then you would have to somehow raise the height, maybe by creating a wire mesh frame above it? Chinchillas love to jump and height is far more important than width in a chinchilla cage.
You seem responsible, so I won't harrass you about backyard breeding ;) I will only suggest you breed a colour other than grey, if this is a hobby I would even reccomend playing with colour genetics a little bit to get rare colours, sapphire and violet are among the more recessive and difficult to breed. The market is flooded with standard grey chinchillas, you'll have an easier time selling even a black or beige.

NO! Chinchillas need more air than an aquarium offers them! They need one that is quite large for running and jumping. I have a chinchilla and his cage is like3 stories with logs and things to climb on and jump on and such! They respond well to a cage made of wood and chicken wire or just a regular bunny cage from the pet stores. As long as the wire is small holes!!!! I absolutely LOVE chinchillas! i wouldnt trade my little Gizmo for the world!

Yeah, as long as you have it set up for the Chinchillas. I had an aquarium that was designed only for use with non-aquatic creatures, it had a framed screen covering for the top, and I kept three gerbils in it. My sister kept a mouse in one for most of his life, and he lived for almost four years (she couldn't keep him in a wire cage because he kept oozing out). They did just fine, and it should be good for chinchilla babies too. They'll also be protected from drafts, unlike with a wire cage. You can move them up to bigger cheaper wire cages when they're older.

my ex boyfriend has a full grown chinchilla in a 20 gallon aquarium and it has always been fine, so i dont see why not. Maybe you should ask a pet shop just in case though.

yea it should be ok. i cant think of any reasons why you couldn't try. if you decide to put a lot of little houses or things in there, make sure you buy a wire cage lid so it cant climb out

I think, only if you drown them first, in that aquarium that is.
