Psychology (ancient Greek: psyche = soul and logos = word) is the study of behaviour, mind and thought. It is largely concerned with humans, although the behaviour and thought of animals is also studied; either as a subject in its own right (see animal cognition and ethology), or more controversially, as a way of gaining an insight into human psychology by means of comparison (see comparative psychology). Psychology is commonly defined as: "the science of behaviour and mental processes".

Not only is psychology the study of behaviour, both individual and group (such areas can include prejudice, emotions, forensic etc), but it also studies the mind and how this relates to the brain. In this respect, psychology also looks at the anatomical structure of the brain, philosophy of the mind and cognition - how humans perform tasks such as remembering, attending and percieving. Psychology also studies developmental aspects, such as how the above skills are developed throughout childhood, as well as areas such as relationships with others and psychological disorders. So, psychology covers a really broad area of subjects, and doesn't just center around counselling or therapy.
