Saudi Arabia. Many of the favorite dishes here are from somewhere else, like Lebanon (Umm Ali is the best dessert in the universe) or further East (tamees from "something-istan"...can't remember exactly which country...but it is good, especially hot off the oven wall!).

If I had to choose a favorite local dish (Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia), I guess it would be harees, which is lean lamb cooked for many hours with pearls of wheat called harees and then drained and beaten to a puree. Cooked with cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves and then topped with melted butter. Mmmmm....

Lindi, what IS the dish you chose? I've never heard of it and wonder what's in it.

I'm so glad you asked this question, how interesting to see what other peoples local dishes are

I come from England but my native country is Barbados, I love flying fish and cou cou. Cou cou is a mashed potato-like dish made from corn meal and okra. It is covered with a sauce known as 'au jus' which is made from the flying fish preparation.

If only could have some now :o)
