You will need to file a fraud report with bank, it may take a month or so but your losses should be returned to you. Meanwhile, you should probably open a new account and stop the old one. Talk to your bank.

Hope you contacted your bank and the police. The cheque should have details on so ask your bank to retain it. Don't be so trusting with people who cannot guarantee their cheques without a card.
Speak to Victims support.

Oh dear, you got caught then, hope it was not a lot of money. Not many people take cheques these days for that very reason.
Unless you have any other details to hand over to the police, you won't have much of a chance in getting your money/goods back.

if it was to do with ebay then you have no chance at all. The best i can offer is www.419eater.com.
They might be abl;e to help as they deal with scammers all day long.
If it was someone in this country you MIGHT get the person who scammed you.
Your best bet is to go to the police and report it. let them tell you how silly you have been and that they see this everyday bla bla bla and start repaying whatever you have to.
SORRY but they get away with it everyday. :-(
