Is there anyone out there who is around their 40s/50s who protected their skin their whole life and who has less wrinkles than other people your age? For example, if you had a friend/sibling the same age as you who never protected their skin. Can you tell a difference? I'm just wondering because I always stress about protecting my skin for the future. Thanks!

I notice a lot of these people aren't answering your question..... I am 48 - most people think I'm20 years younger than I am.I have religiously used sun screen on all exposed areas of my body since I was 25. I use an oil free formula by Coppertone because it's not greasy and my skin is oily anyway. Yes, it's a big hassle sometimes to do this, but I wanted to look as great as I could as long as I could and boy - has it EVER paid off for me. If you wanted to see a picture of me then email me and I'll send you one. It's a hassle and a real expense at times because you can go through a lot of sunscreen if you're committed to this regimen. Chances aren't too great that you'd get skin cancer if you didn't do this, but chances are REAL great that you're going to look like a dried up hag by the time you're 37 or so if you don't. I also take a wide spectrum of anti-oxidant nutrients, like Vit. C (and plenty of it - it's cheap) because these are known to also protect the skin from sun damage and aging in general. A lot of young girls (and guys) think that by the time they're my age they'll be done with the REAL business of living, but let me tell you, even if you're my age - 48 - you'll want to look as terrific and sexy as you can. Your feelings about life will be essentially the same then as now, believe it or not. You'll want to look great for men then the same as you do now, whether you have a husband or not. Do as many things as you reasonably have time and money for to keep yourself - especially your skin - looking great. Almost all the women around you by that time that are your same age will have given up and YOU'LL be looking killer. Most women my age look like bleeding hell because they just give up. They get fat, they get droopy because they don't get regular exercise, their health is falling apart unnecessarily, they feel like hell all the time and they have one foot in the grave - and the same thing goes for the guys, let me tell you! I would NEVER be with a man my own age - they're all just old men. NO thanks. My fiance is 12 yrs. younger than me and everyone thinks HE'S older than ME. It's not so much good genes as good habits. Good luck!

I think it is a good idea to continue with your protection if for nothing more than to protect against skin cancer. However, as for wrinkles, there must be something to the protection for that as well because I was not a big sun worshipper although I did spend some time sunbathing etc. I just turned **gulp** 50 but because I don't pay attention to that number and don't act my age :) I tend to be taken for a lot younger than I am and I'm pretty certain few wrinkles helps that. I have far less wrinkles than a sister in law who is 6 years younger than me.

I am quite pleased with the lack of wrinkles I have except when it gets to be embarrassing...particularly when people think I am much younger than my husband who is really 2 years older than me but has had gray hair since he was 25 so he's used to people thinking he's older than he is...he's far from that tho, his sons can't even keep up with him and they are in their teens and early 20's :)

I guess perhaps with the nose piercing, several ear pierces and no gray hair...I must confuse people somewhat :) The youngest age I've been given was 35 unless I count the really great gas attendant guys who asked for my id for a pack of cigarettes for hubby (they claim they ask for ids if you don't look 25, and they did such a convincing job of being serious)...have to say they made my day :)

So, keep doing what you are doing because when you are 50 it's going to feel fabulous to know that you can pass for much younger. Another "secret" I use and have used for a few years now is okay don't laugh, but you might anyway, so go ahead :)O Vagasil liquid gel, yes the female part lubricant gel...but I don't use it for that, I use it on my face only...it works very well and I had my sister in law ask me what I was doing because my face was so smooth looking and fresh :) har har ... seriously tho, I do not fail to rub this on at night and in the morning and it has definitely done a great job of keeping me looking that great 35 or 25 if I decide to go with it. I use no other creams on my face save this and it has worked excellent. It's a little embarrassing buying it mind you cause its for female dryness but I've never stuck with rules or read instructions very well.

Well, I'm 23 and I use sunscreen on my face and arms (I rarely expose my legs to the sun) and I do it because I don't want skin cancer or wrinkles. I say with the global warming going on now, it would be useless to ask someone 40 or 50 because the earth wasn't in this bad of shape when they were in their twenties. For our generation, I believe protecting your skin is a must because we are exposed to much more natural dangers now than ever before. I hope this helps!! :)

YES! Good for you, you're a smart girl. You wouldn't think that it would make a difference, but just those little trips walking from your car to a store without sunscreen, it all adds up to skin damage. I've been taking care of my skin better for the past 20 years or so, but can't undo what was done before that. I have two sisters who go to tanning salons and they both have skin damage from that. It does catch up to you! I've never gone to one and don't want to. If you like the look of a tan, use a bronzer. They are a little extra effort every day, but better than permanent damage.

If nothing else, it's worth it to protect yourself from cancer in the future!!!
I know too many people who have had skin lesions removed, and you really don't want to go through that.
And as far as wrinkles... look at the old women who've lived in Florida their entire lives! They look like prunes. That's not a look you want to go for.

Yes - when you age...your skin looses its elasticity, and sun damage makes it much worse. Trust me, go look at some of those old men that staid out in the sun all day when they were younger and had no protection. They get those sun spots, and their skin is all sagging. Trust me, your doing a good job.

i might propose staying in the coloration anyplace you circulate, and use an umbrella, it does shield the sunlight from you. I observed somebody do it years in the past , additionally positioned on cotton long sleeve t-shirts with cotton capri's or pants. That works and yet that's cool for you in addition to would. The sunlight is poisonous to your epidermis, in case you reside out to long! I had a relative who had epidermis maximum cancers, via to plenty sunlight.......
