I'm not a smoker, yet this applies to getting rid of any bad habit. The main key is will power & determination. Since you asked this question then it shows you must have it.Try staying away from smoking areas and gradually reduce the no. of cigarettes smoked per day while concurrently replacing it with (like others said) lollipop or chewing gum.Stay determined & Good Luck :)

I quit smoking just over a year ago and i found that the best thing for me was not to use the patches (even though i smoked 20 a day for 10 years) and have lots of things to do with your hands. Puzzles, lollipops, house work etc. The other thing i found was having someone to talk to and to change my daily habits. (where i ate my lunch, not drinking as much coffee....)

I'm not saying it will be easy, but trust me, the end result is great.

(also count the cost - so far i've saved £1400!)

You'll be dancing around just like happy little boys and girls do once you've quit. Get at least one good buddy boy or girl to support you, plan what you need to do and grab when a craving hits in the first few weeks, keep your clear and consistent goal in mind all the time, and finally go and have a read of all the help here: http://www.quitguide.com

There are a number of ways to stop smoking but they all involve your co-operation . whether they are pills and potions, patches, gum, acupuncture or hypnotherapy they all require an amount of will power and a conviction to quit.
Smoking, like any other addiction, is "taught" and as such can be "un-taught" by this I mean you taught yourself to smoke, with help you can un-teach yourself.
Hypnotherapy helps you to quit by helping to alter the way you think about smoking, in other words helping you to overcome the addictive side of it and boost your will power, without side effects.
This is providing you are determined to stop and not just saying it. Some times there are reasons that, no matter what you try to give it up, smoking is "too important" to you.

Cold turkey! It worked for me! Just set a date and stop smoking. You need a lot of willpower, but I think it is the best way. Avoid drinks and places which you associate with smoking... I had to give up coffee as it always made me want a cigarette!

I am currently using Nicorette gum. I have no desire to smoke...it totally takes away the craving, but you have to follow the directions exactly. I've even gotten to the point now where I can replace some of the pieces of Nicorette with regular gum when I get a craving. It definately eases the anxious feeling....try it.

i stopped cold turkey last Christmas and i have not had one since, sure its been tough, and i have craved a smoke, but if you want to give up you will just do it, i don't believe in patches or crap like that, the only thing i believe in is will power, put it this way give up and be healthy or keep smoking and die early your choice, good luck i hope you succeed.
