I have a baby starling in my garden that cannot yet fly, and is sitting at the bottom of our tree. We have left it for a day to see if its mum came back, but there is no sign. I didn't want to touch it incase she did come back, but what should we do with it now?

Check to see if it has fallen out of a nest and if yes, return it to the nest.
Otherwise, hope that the mother bird will return.

Sadly you may have to let nature take its course.

If the starling has all it's feathers and is not injured it is probably learning to fly and the parents will watch it but won't help, it could take a couple days. If it's injured call wild life rescue. If it does not have all it's feathers put it back in the nest. (Yes, you can touch it, that whole thing is an old wives tale)

Keep an eye on it for another day, the mum may be close around and still feeding it, but if it is chirping all the time it may be an indication that it is not being fed.

If you want to help it survive without the mum, you could mash up some worms and grubs for it and then use a dropper to place it in the chicks throat.

Not much you can do.... ( The local cat will sort it )
I had the same with 4 Magpie chicks ... but that was easy .. i hand feed them on cat food ( Maggie's eat just about anything ) ... but starlings are very hard to hand rear..
Sorry i cant give you better news but that's Nature for you.

If you leave it there the cat Will get it, If you move it Mum will not return , Nature must take its course . The nest was over crowded so it got pushed . Get a spade and stand by.. From a country boy.

I'm wanting to say you should contact the local branch of the National Audubon Society. They might have a rescue shelter that would be able to care for it? I know that's what my mom did when a bird flew into one of our windows. Though I think it died thereafter from sustained serious injuries, sadly. :o(
