Is it true that women generally like older men?

It seems to be the case that women like older men. Is this true, or just a sterotype? If it is true, then why is this so?

Well, if you mean older as older than the woman, I think it's generally true. I think it is an old tradition, you know, in the earlier centuries the man was the one who worked, made money for the family, and older he was the more secure lifestyle he could give to the woman. The ladies couldn't really work, not even at the fields, hardly ever was allowed to study, they were only good for get married, and bring up a family, you know, and the earlier they could leave the familyhouse, the lower cost they made to their father. (I'm sorry, I don't want to be sharp, I just can't really use shades with my poor English...)
Recently I think this is why most people think the "normal couple" consists of a lady and a few (or more) years older man, but I also think that being an older-lady-younger-man couple is also accepted.
If I can add my personal opinion, I cannot imagine myself with someone who's more than 5 or 6 years older me. Nor with someone who's only 1 hour younger me. Although I think I am open-minded...

I think most younger woman like older men because the bring a sense of security to the relationship. Many times though older woman will go for younger men as the bring energy and spark to the relationship and tend not to be as focused on long-term commitment, which is great if you coming out of a divorce.

I've heard it starts in puberty because teenage girls mature before teenage boys, so boys of their own age are too 'young' for them. That doesn't explain why it carries on in later life though. I think a lot of it comes from tradition - women traditionally marry older men, and if a woman marries a man who is significantly younger than her, it's still seen as being a little odd - and more odd than a woman marrying a man who is significantly older than her. Presumably this originally stems from something biological, but I don't know what!

Yes, a lot of women like older men because they are:
more mature
more emotionally stable
more stable in the work and finances

Women want to feel secure and quite a few young men just don't have it together.

no i do not think this is always true, however sometimes it is true. some women like a older and maturer man with experience. it is not a sterotype, some like older men some dont, everybodys different and you must respect desicions.

Women will look for the maturity of the person and not on age. But of course, we will say that the older you get, the wiser and more mature you will get. Women want someone who has a sense of independence, wise decision-maker, someone who will take care of you, will treat you nice, things like that. Men should be the one who will carry the relationship and not the other way around.

I'm a guy. Older women prefer older men, which is natural. Older men don't have the testosterone level younger men do, which for a younger woman may be sex twice daily until it hurts.

But just get married, marry a young guy and you'll work things out as you age.

Generally? I don't think so. There are women who prefer older men, others who go for younger ones. The majority go for mates of approximately the same age.

I have never been out with anyone younger than me. My boyfriend is one month older than me. I prefer the same age or older in a bloke, but it's personal preference. I think some women wouldn't prefer to go out with a younger man because he isn't likely to know what he's doing!!
