I have auburn hair and fair skin. Normally, I burn in the sun if I'm out too long. Do you think if I start using tanning beds I'll get some colour? Trust me, I've tried several self tan lotions, even airbrushing, but I always end up orange.

Have any of you with fair skin ever tanned? I don't want to be really dark, just a little golden? Can anyone help?

When you're out in the sun, use the least amount of SPF needed so that you don't burn, but you can also get a little color. I am pretty fair skinned, and I use SPF 15 if I'm outside all day, I don't burn at all but still get a little tan. Tanning beds are the almost same thing as being outside! If you burn outside, you will most likely burn in a tanning bed too. Plus, they are extremely bad for you, as they can cause cancer and do cause wrinkles later in life. If you're naturally very pale, that is probably why the self tanners and spray on tans are turning you orange, they are probably too strong for your fair skin. Get something that builds a tan gradually.

I have the same complexion, auburn hair, fair skin. In the spring, I use Neutragena's self-tanning spray and go out in the sun for a little while. I don't turn orange as long as I get some sun. Eventually, I stop using the self-tanning spray and I'll be ok unless I get stupid and stay out too long. I used to work at a tanning salon. I wouldn't advise using one.

Don't worry about tans, some like pale :)
dont do tanning beds, just stay outside with sunscrean on, burn once or twice, then it will start to tan. you have to suffer a couple days outside, but its better then the cancer chamber.
