Have you read the Iliad and the Odyssey yet? Fagles does a great translation. Or Mitchell's translation of Gilgamesh. Good stuff. Hard reading though. It'll keep you busy for awhile. Best read out loud, I think. The kids love it in small doses. But not Gilgamesh, too much sex. Grosses them out.

If that's too hard core for you, you should introduce yourself to the genius that is Neil Geiman and the further genious which is Douglas Adams. Enjoy!
Also, if you're into kids books, I've just discovered Edith Nesbitt, really good stuff!

I like the books by Terry Brooks. They are magic/Fantasy type books, and very well written. I just reread a series a couple of months ago.The one that I read was the Landover series. Here is a link about the writer. It is very interesting.

Nothing in the above genre.

If you really want to read a book, a real book, then try Joseph Heller, Dickens, Wells, Douglas Adams, George Orwell, William Burroughs, Antony Burgess, William Golding........

Try "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" or "The Man in the High Castle"

Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Blew me away and everyone that I know as well. It's very fantastical but also just on the edge of believeabilty so you keep thinking 'This could happen'. Can't think of a better recommendation for fiction.
