If you are referring to Michael Hart's book - "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History", then I tend to agree with the author. His book was not about the greatest person but rather the influence that they have had in the world.

His reasoning was based on the fact that Mohammad was not only the leading religious figure in the world's 2nd largest religion, but a military and political leader as well.

He also correctly pointed out that Jesus direct followers were Jewish. It was Paul that began the preaching of the gospel to non-Jews. It can be argued that Paul was more influential in the spread of Christianity because of this. Without Paul, Christianity might not have become as big as it is today, simply because Jesus did not preach directly to a large number of people. The author recognized this by making St. Paul the 6th person on his list.

To the person who wanted to know who the 2nd person on the list was, it was Issac Newton.

Wikipedia has an article on this book, if anyone is interested:

I don't know about Jesus being the 3rd greatest man, but I certainly believe that Muhammad is the GREATEST of all people.

To my understanding, Jesus was the Messiah. Mr. Mo was nothing but a prophet supposedly bring the Word of God. If you delve deeper on Mr. Mo, you find he wasn't all that pious.

i dont agree with him. each & every person is different & not the two people are same in this world.all do not have similar characteristics. this is a very fact & one cant ignore it so each & every person is unique in this world. there should not be any comperison of great people becoz they are simply great.

It's a matter of opinion. I imagine it would depend on your religious persuasion and beliefs. "Great is great." It's like comparing apples to oranges...they are both fruit...and it is a matter of opinion as to which one you think is best...one not being better than the other.
