I am looking for a city where I can live safely with my children, with less crimes and violence. A city wich offers good services, good education, job opportunites and medium cost of living.

Depending on what lists you use:

Comparing violent crime rates in 327 U.S. cities, Morgan Quitno Press found that Amherst, N.Y., tops the list of America's Safest Cities. Newton, Mass., Mission Viejo, Calif., Cary, N.C., and Brick Township, N.J. round out the top five.

I know from experience that Cary used to be the third safest city in the US but dropped to the sixth safest city last year. I think they had a murder which dropped them down those slots. Yes, a single murder. Morrisville, the next city over, is a smaller city but it a little cheaper. (only 9 sq miles in area). Very good education, job opportunites, and affordable. It is just a few miles from Raleigh and Durham. Just stay out of Durham and you are good to go.

I came from Mass, which gives me another experience for Newton. It is a little more expensive, but Massachusetts is number one in education. I can't say enough about Mass. You need to stay out of Boston for the crime, but pretty much anywhere else is ok.

Having grown up there, I can say that Burlington VT offers a low crime rate, little violence and good schools. The drawbacks: moderate to slightly high cost of living due to the winter and the required heat. Being a popular college city with several Colleges and Universities, housing is in demand for off campus residence driving housing prices up higher than what they could be for a different market. It is close to Lake Champlain, New York State is a short ferry ride away and overall offers a good quality of life. There are technical job opportunities, some white collar jobs and normally steady blue collar work. I hope that this helps you.

Stamford has been ranked as the safest city in the nation according to the most recently released FBI crime statistics. The first half of 2004 nationwide crime statistics released by the FBI rate Stamford not only as the safest city in Connecticut, but the safest city in the Northeast Region of the United States, and the safest city in the nation (cities being defined as those with a population of 100,000 or more). Stamford ranked fourth in 2003 and then experienced a 3.9% decrease in crime for the first half of 2004, which brought it up to the first place position. Even though Stamford has continued to grow, it has continued to experience decreases in crime. From 1995 to 2003, Stamford's crime rate per 100,000 has decreased a remarkable 63.7% . That is quite an accomplishment that should make us all very proud. Why has crime continued to decrease in Stamford? Why is Stamford the safest city in the nation? There are many contributing factors, but the most important is the Stamford Police Department's philosophy of and commitment to community policing.
