Or were they in the seventies too?

I know they are still together, just wondering if they were in the seventies and successful then.

More of an 80's band. Very late 70's maybe.

They formed in the late seventies and they were still an obscure band untill their 1988 hit Love Shack. I love the B-52's. They seem like they have more fun than anybody else.

No they are not together I believe one of the members are no longer alive.

The B-52's is a New Wave rock band from Athens, Georgia; the first of many from the college town that has become one of the most important centers in alternative rock. The name comes from the bouffant wigs that are a part of the band's distinctive look, worn by singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. Along with Wilson and Pierson, drummer Keith Strickland, guitarist Ricky Wilson (Cindy's older brother) and vocalist Fred Schneider formed the band after a drunken night at a Chinese restaurant and played their first gig at a Valentine's Day party for friends in 1976. Their sound is particularly marked by the vocals and harmonies of Wilson and Pierson, with Kate singing in a very high voice, Cindy doing the deeper voice, along with the generally monotone or spoken-word vocals of Schneider. Aside from their vocals, the band also had a unique New Wave sound that was a combination of dance and surf music and the unusual guitar-string tunings utilized by Ricky Wilson. Their music was very experimental and indulged in all manner of odd vocal and synthesizer effects. It created a quirky dance sound that became very popular.

Did not start but in 1978 they became a real hot underground band, putting them on the stages of Max's Kansas City and CBGB's 2 really big clubs that a lot of RnR and punk bands got their start in....which ultimately led to their mainstream success, with Planet Claire, Rock Lobster and My own Private Idaho

1976 thru 1994 and yes, their first album;
The B-52's came out in 1979. I remember when Rock Lobster first came out, I was employed in a radio station at the time and got to listen to promotional copies of music before it hit the streets. Thought it was so weird, but
I loved it! Even remember liking Tom Petty promotional albums before he was ever known. Everybody told me he stunk......HA! If they only knew then...

No, Dickwad, they were flown in the 40's and used heavily to drop bombs on civilan targets all over Germany , Japan, and other countries that our leaders felt need one. They don't fly them anymore, they are obsolete, what's wrong with you, better get hip and read your history book.
