According to Wikkipedia, taste is the same as saying general preference, but is also a sociological concept that it is not just personal but rather subject to social pressures. Therefore we can conclude that instead of saying that music is a preference of a certain race, its more accurate to say it is decided by certain cultures or group of people, which many times coincides with race. For example (a vary vague one), hispanic teens in LA probably listen to hip-hop, while many teenagers in Puerto Rico may listen to salsa or merengue, but you have countries in the south of South America like Argentina, where teenagers listen more rock and metal. Same "race" (vaguely so) but different social groups, therefore different taste. This also applies to other kinds of taste, like movies, artwork, etc. People who say just because you're asian you listen to this and that... are ignorant. That's like saying everyone in a certain country has long hair or shor hair, or whatever, they probably haven't met many asians and that's why they're saying that. I'm into metal myself, and I know Japan is huge in metal, but also know that there are japanese rappers and probably every other kind of music, so can't stereotype there...

I guess your friends have a set stereotype in their mind. Most people would be surprised at the variety of music I like to listen to. I am also asian and well...actaully it's alot harder to stereotype me because I don't really fit any mold per se. I don't dress in hip hop clothes, nor do I wear my hair long like most rockers. Yet I like to listen to both genres and others as well. I guess it does have t odo with how you dress, how you move, how you talk and how you carry yourself. Normally, if you have a spiked green mohawk, people will automatically assume you listen to punk rock, but would be surprised that you also li8ke opera! Tell yo uthe truth where I live, most Asians listen to HIphop, R&B ,etc. OR at least, that's my perception. I could be wrong. Anyways this is only my own opinion based on intuition and observation. Take from it what you will, interpret it how you may, it doesn't matter to me.

Your Freinds are foolish, because the use racial generalities to define a personal preference,{musical choice}The japanese have long loved the Beatles,For example. Many great White artists have been Jazz musicians.Clint Eastwood ,a pianist, and composer,{besides actor},plays and sing, country, jazz, and made a movie about black artists.Artists of all races ,play, what music affects their soul.I am a white pro musician, and have played in many mixed bands,Rock, metal, soul,Country,R&B,acid, folk, jazz,U Name it!Sly and the family stone,Hendrix,The Rolling stones, all played to worldwide adulation.I myself, because of My super high tenor Voice, have doubled for Smokey Robinson,to applause from complely black crowds.I also Can sing high white,or even female songs,of all generations.{Yesterday}, McCartney,Billy Idol.,Manson, even Barbra Streisand.Music is in peoples hearts, not skin.My son,Blond and blue eyed ,is doing hip-hop,with his Black buddies.Cause he can play that Guitar,And Boogie better than them.Explain this true fact of music bypassing race ,and toughing the inner soul.

Your friends are idiots and must not know you enough. Music is the choice of the listener. Try some southern 70's rock, or 80's pop music, there is more out there than the stuff you listed.

There was a scientific study done several years ago that showed that White people can only dance to Electric Guitar. Black prefer drums and Latins prefer Electric piano with Spanish gibberish over it.

I think today music has more to do with how you're raised. Use to parents wouldn't allow kids to walk around with baggy pants that showed their underwear, walk with a stupid limp, talk like they can't speak English, etc, and now it's like more parents just don't care and the kids think it's "cool" to listen to the pure crap that talks about murder, rape, and stealing.

Why is everyone with blond, why can't you just have jet black curly hair with some blonde or blonde hair with some jet black hair. Right now you don't have to choose.
