i have to say yes but as soon as the baby is born the pain is gone just then just like you never had pain. then you might start to cry because of how happy you are to have this wonderful life in your arms. there is nothing more worth going threw. i would never trade that pain for nothing. a baby gives you so much more joy then to think of the short time of pain. think of a life time of happiness and joy.

Well if anyone tells you it doesn't hurt...they have just forgotten a few things about giving birth.

But....today you can have an epidural if you wish that numbs the entire lower extremities including the stomach. You feel very, very little of the birth...usually only during the pushing process and even then only a bit of pressure, nothing major.

To go natural...then yes, be prepared for pain that is like having a bad menstrual cycle combined with pressure during each contraction where your stomach becomes quite firm.

I have had both natural and epidural and even tho the epidural does produce a headache for a few hours up to a day or so afterwards and you are totally numb for several hours after birth...if you are concerned about whether or not you want to give birth naturally or not...or you don't handle pain very well...an epidural does make the birth process a lot more comfortable to the point that you can lay there and read, talk with people etc with no problem.

If you are due to have a baby...congratulations, if thinking about it...a wonderful experience, if just asking out of curiosity...good stuff

Take care

It depends on your pain tolerance. My first one, I was in pain (contractions) for about 1.5 days before I realized that these were the real pregnancy pains and I might want to go to the doctor. When I got there (the 2nd time) I was given some easy pain medicines like seconal???. It was enough to take the edge off the pain. I do remember asking my midwife for an epidural but by then it was too late. Sneaky b****. It was great!! I loved feeling all the stuff happen to me and having an active part.
My second one, I went into active labor while on the phone with my hubby. I knew it was real, because it hurt so bad. By the time I got to the doctor I was begging for pain killers. They gave me some loopdy-doo stuff that made me laugh and cry at the same time. I didn't know that was possible. But the pain was (too my mind) unbearable. When it came time to push, I didn't have the control over my lower body to push naturally so the doctor had to tell me when to do it. There was no sense of accomplishment for me b/c I hadn't done anything. I wish now that I had not done it.
By the way, the one that cost me the most pain during pregnancy, causes me even more pain 3 years later.

Natual child birth is very painful, not only do you have hours and hours of labor pains but then you have to squeeze 7-9 lbs of baby out of your body. There is only so much it can hurt though... and alot depends on your tolerance for pain. There is nothing better than holding that little baby after 20 hours of hard work. You really do get a new understanding of the what a miracle is though... like it's a miracle I didn't kill my husband during that time!!!

Usually it does hurt...since every woman is different how much it hurts depends on her. Her physical structure, her endurance of pain. Whether there are complications with the delivery. It is impossible to determine how much pain if any a woman will have during child birth.

YES. Not just a little, and the pain can be sustained. If you lie in labor for a long time, the pains are still coming and going. My mother once told me "It is the hardest pain to bear, and the easiest to forget." I can not believe they can be forgotten so easy, my Hat is off to all women. That is something I could never handle. and I have been stabbed twice, and shot twice.
