Use your restore or recover CDs. There are normally two of them out of which one has the OS and other has the drivers. Put the first CD in the drive and restart your laptop and keep following the screens...

The pity of it all is that you haven't mentioned the OS on which your Dell Computer works. I'm, therefore, going to assume that it's Windows XP Home or Pro.

Please go to "Start" click on it. Go to "Settings" and click on it. Go to "Control Panel" and click on it. Go to "Performance and Maintenance" and click on it. In the window that opens here, look at the top left hand corner where you'll see a little grey box containing the line "System Restore". Please click on it.

Now, the page that appears will have a default date and time for the last known best condition configuration and the option to change it. It's really very easy from here on, so, please make your choices intelligently and click "Next" upto "Finish". You'll need to reboot your Computer and it'll come back to the last known configuration you asked for.

Please do not worry about losing saved files, because that doesn't happen. You may need to delete unwanted files, if any, by going the usual route.

This should resolve your issue.

Cheers.

Insert your version of windows and go to start menu, my computer. Click drive D, where the CD is, and it should run automatically. It will also give you instructions on screen what to do next. You will have to reinsert your keycode for the disk as well. You can also call microsoft support and they can do it by remote access if you registered your computer.
