No one knows for sure, but they have found answers to some of the questions. For levelling, they used a plain old plum bob attached to a triagular frame. They may have used logs as rollers, along with pure old brute strength, to get the stones to the site. There are about three theories as to how they got the stones in place. Some say they may have pulled them up by rope, but that's not likely. The other two say they used a series of ramps, either one long ramp or a series of ramps that wound their way to the top. Dr. Zahi Hawass, who is the Director of Antiquities for Egypt, and who was the head of the Giza Plateau for years, believes the last one is the right one. He also apparently gets a little nasty when people try to claim aliens built them. It's a bit of an insult to his people to say they weren't sophisticated enough to do such a thing. Plus, there are several other pyramids across Egypt which show the steps the Egyptians went through to get to the final results in Giza, including the Step Pyramid, the Bent Pyramid, and the Red Pyramid at Saccara (sp.?)

And Egyptologists no longer believe slaves were used to build them. It was probably more like a huge public works project for the times the Nile was flooding, or the farmers weren't able to farm. They have discovered a huge city not far away where the workers lived (so much for the alien theory!), and a burial ground for the workers. The skeletons even show evidence of healed broken bones. Also, the burial grounds are close to the pyramids, andit is doubtful that slaves would have been buried either so close to their pharoah, or as well--I've seen pictures of some of the burials, and some are very ornate, with carvings indicating the name and title of the person, and statues of how they looked in life.

Nobody that would be able to tell you. I'd imagine that everyone in Egypt at the time knew, and the knowledge was present in societies for years after the pyramids were done being constructed. But they have long since died.

The most widely accepted theory today is that slaves were forced to build the pyramids. The Egyptians built ramps to enable the stones to be set all the way up to the top, which were removed after completion.

However, there are some who don't believe Egyptians capable of building the pyramids, speculating that it have may even been done by aliens.

Yes there are many pictograms showing the construction of the pyramids. Never forget that they had a vast poole of human labor. It was cheap and plentiful.
It was a slow process but with modern tools we could build one in about a year. Where the great pyramid took 3 generations to finish.

They used ramps, levers, the block and tackle and a lot of of human labor.

There is nothing at all even slightly mysterious about how one goes about building a pyramid.

There was a whole series of that on Discovery just last week! Didn't you see it?
Look on discovery.com and see what you find there. Try an Egypt or Pyramids at Giza link .
Hope this helps. : )

Actually, since no one from that period is alive (that we know of) and they left no "as-builts" of their designs, and all evidence of the construction is long gone ... the answer is "no." No one really knows. Speculation is that it was raw manpower, rollers, ramps, and a long long time. But it could just as easily have been aliens with anti-gravity lifters.

slaves were not responsible for building the pyramids, excavations of the living quarters of the workers have shown that they were well fed and clothed and even had acess to medical help.
