Why or why not?
I think from the stand point of the history channel..(lol) that it would be kinda interesting, but they didnt have AC to get out of the heat.
Who would you have liked to have been and what would you have done different as a ruler or a servent or whatever?

I have liked to have lived as a Plebian (middle class) because you weren't required to do military service like the Patrician class. And you didn't have to work like the non Romans. You could just sit around all day doing nothing and you would be given a ration of grain for the day. Plus you could go around to the Patrician houses and get money for doing nothing since they felt it was their moral duty to give money away. And if you were bored you could go watch the circus games which were put on for your amusement or go over to the public baths for a free massage or for casual sex with a fellow Plebian (male or female they did it either way.) Plus nobody cared if you were gay or straight. In fact if my memory serves me correctly, up until the rise of Christianity in the Empire just about everyone at least in the Plebian class was bisexual. It was a perfectly normal and acceptable thing. And for you teenagers out there, you could legally start having sex at 13.

For centuries they were one of the most advanced societies around - if not the most advanced. Look at all they accomplished without the aid of modern technology....roads and highways....aquaducts to carry water....they even had a form of indoor toilets so you didn't have to go out in the street...public baths, so it wasn't like they were filthy barbarians....the first democracy. They were an extremely civilized society in an uncivilized time.

And they accomplished all of this while taking the time to conquer much of the known world!!

I would have been content to have been a Senator in the Forum and would have made certain that Julius Caesar was careful on the Ides of March!

They did have some modern things such as AC.Check out sites on Pompey. The Romans had absolutely no mercy for anyone not Roman. This would have been a horrible time to be alive. You should read what the Romans did to other cultures. They made Hitler look like a pansy.

Oh hell no. I'll take the Renaissance, any time.

(Actually, on second thought, I'm pretty sure I WAS alive during the time of the Roman Empire. Doh!)

No way--women were treated like dirt, and if you weren't a citizen, you were nothing. And they were way too violent for me--any civilization which would drive whole species of animals to extinction just for the "pleasure" of seeing them killed is not one I'd want to be included in.

Air conditioning I might be able to live without but novacaine never. Imagine what a visit to a dentist would be like without pain killers.
