One player at a time, okay?
Fabio Cannavaro= His performance in the World Cup was superb! He's Italy's Captain, and plays in centre defender position. His age is 30-sumthin, a bit old for a football player, and he even doesn't have a common height for a defender (his height is about 170 cm). In the golden ball award (MVP of the WC), he lost to Zinedine Zidane. In club level, he plays for Juventus (Italian League). Juventus, however, is going to play in serie B (2nd division) next season for fixing scores.
Lukas Podolski= Next star of German's football. He plays as a striker. In Germany National Team, he is paired with Miroslav Klose. Both of them was born in Poland. Only 20 (or21?) years old, but already shown a lot of talents. He scored three goals in the WC (his first, if I'm not mistaken). Started the tournament with lack of composure, but eventually manage to find his form. Last season, he played for Koeln / Cologne, a football club in Germany. Next season, he'll be playing for Bayern Muenchen, the most succesful German club.
Zinedine Zidane = You have some answers already for this player. He was a midfielder. He played in three WC's. 1998, 2002, and 2006. He scored two goals in the final match of WC 1998 against Brazil. He and French team failed to perform well in the WC 2002 (not scoring a single goal). But he repaid that with astounding appearence at his age of 34 (if I remeber correctly). He scored three goals in the last WC.
Gianluigi Buffon = He is Italy's Goalkeeper. One of the best goalie, and certainly the most expensive one. Unfortunately, I forgot how much did Juventus had to pay when they purchased him from Parma. He conceded only twice in the WC 2006 (aside of the penalty shoot-out). First from an own goal by is team mate Cristian Zaccardo. The other one was from Zidane's Penalty in the final match. Buffon won the Lev Yashin award for this WC. It's an award for the best goalkeeper. Lev Yashin himself was a legendary goalie from Soviet Union.
About Zizou headbutted Materazzi, it still under the investigation of FIFA. FIFA already heard both sides of the story, but they will bring Zidane and Materazzi face to face on the 20th of July in Zurich, FIFA's headquarters. Zizou said Materazzi insulted his mom and sister. But Zizou admitted that there were no racist remarks made by Materazzi. Materazzi denied insulting Zidane's mother. He said mothers are sacred for him. That is because he lost his mom when he was 14. But I'm not sure whether he admitted to have insulted Zidane's sister. Both still hold their comments on what words exactly said in that incident.
Hope it will help... =)

Fabio Cannavaro, Captain of winners Italy, is one of the best defenders in the world. He kept Italy's stellar defense, which gave up two goals in the whole tournament, one of them an own goal and one of them a penalty kick, together. Miroslav Klose, of 3rd place and host country Germany, was the tournaments leading scorer, with five goals. Lukas Podolski, also of Germany, was paired with Klose in Germany's front line, and scored three goals. Zenidine Zidane, of runner-up France, nicknamed 'zizou', was voted the tournaments best player. Zidane, the aging star, who scored two goals the 1998 tournament final against Brazil, led France, who wasn't really expected to make the quarterfinals, to the Final against Italy. Buffon, Italy's goalkeeper, was, apart from Cannavaro, the main reason Italy only gave up two goals. He had several brilliant saves, and had the most of any keeper in the tournament. As far as the Zidanes headbutt against Italian player Matterazzi, Materazzi insulted him or his family members, and Zidane headbutted him.

zinadine zidane a algerian born french player for france was the one that head butted an italian player in the world cup final. he was then issued a red card for the foul which ejected him from the game. he scored a goal in that game, but without him, his team tied 1-1 through regulation and overtime lost in the penalty shootout. If zidane had stayed in the game, it could've been france that would of won the world cup. sadly even though he was the top player of the world cup awarded the golden ball, zidane is retired and will not have a chance to redeem himself for the 2010 world cup. other players that played great are ronaldo of brazil, ronaldhino of brazil, schevshenko nicknamed shavi of the ukraine.
