Depends on what type of game you're looking for. Light party game? I'd recommend Apples to Apples, Beyond Balderdash or Time's Up. If you want something a little more "boardgamey" you might want to try Ticket to Ride or Settlers of Catan. If you want something even meatier, try Caylus or Puerto Rico. I have a game group (adults) that meets weekly, so I know what's out there. You can get all these games online (Funagain, ThoughtHammer, TimeWellSpent, etc.), but you probably won't find them locally unless you're near a specialty game store. For information about these (and other) games, you can go to http://www.boardgamegeek.com/. Good luck!

Try these games from Rio Grande Games:
- Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers (the easiest to learn of the Carcassonne series)
- Bohnanza
- The Bucket King
- Pick Picknic
- Australia
- The Gardens of Alhambra
- Around the World in 80 Days
- King's Breakfast
- Corsari
- The Difference Between Women and Men
All the games from Rio Grande Games are very good but these are the easiest to learn and play and deep to enough withstand repeated playings.

Personally I think Clue is fun for all ages. It gets people thinking and who doesn't like to solve a mystery? Scrabble is good. The Scene It games are fun if you like movies. The regular version has all types of movies, and I've seen accessory packs for other movie subjects like James Bond. Also, you could search out outdated versions of Children's Editions of Trivial Pursuit. Seriously. My friend had a game night a few months ago and we played an edition from about 1989. It was hilarious pointing out how some of the correct Science answers are wrong today (arguing over points in jest), and seeing weird late 80s TV and fads questions. We also talked about the "current events" from then. It was fun to see how much we remembered from that time period.

For a larger group: Apples to Apples or Time's Up. These are games more for adults, but not something you need to hide from the kids.
For a smaller group (2-6): I would try Ticket to Ride. This one is also playable with the kids when the party is over.

There is a book called "The book of questions". Its a great "game" for adults. (be careful your partner isn't overly jelous, there are some questions that you may not want to answer) But its a great conversation starter/keeper. Also, try Mind Trap, or Taboo (with Taboo, its really fun to go "into the gutter", so to speak)
Enjoy, hope this helps. Definately check out the Little Book of Questions, maybe preview it first!

Scrabble, Taboo, a card game called "Pit" is LOADS of fun and LOUD, a great game that works best with 6 or more players is "Scotland Yard" by Ravensburger...detectives hunt down Mr.X in London...
Monopoly's always good, as is Parcheesi and Uno. A couple of decks of playing cards make for great times too, Hearts, Spades or Poker.

I don't think Milton Bradley is a company any more. I think Hasbro attached their name to the whole line instead after the huge buyout a couple years back.

I don't know what company makes it, but Cranium is a great game. I've played with my friends and also with my boyfriend's parents so it's appropriate for all different age groups. It has a little bit of everything- pictionary, charades, trivia, word games.

apples to apples is a great game especially for a laid back party. Also cranium if you want something intellectual or interactive. Imaginiff is a great game if you are close with your guests. Scattegories, trivial pursuit are some others.

My family and I play, Beyond Balderdash. It is so much fun, very easy to play, and you get lots of laughs. Adults as well as teens can play. If you get a chance look it up. We play it all the time.
Signed,
