Ernest Borgnine and Jack Elam.

These 2 longtime character actors were known mostly for their film work - particularly comedies. I believe Elam was in a TV western series decades ago. Borgnine had TV success with the original McHale's Navy and Airwolf. I think Borgnine is on a current TV series (or will be on a TV series in the upcoming fall TV season).

On the Home Improvement episode, the 2 men portrayed longtime best friends who had recently retired from very long careers on the assembly line at an automobile factory in Detroit. They hung out at a small "dive" bar locally known for a Limburger-and-onion sandwich named the "The Big Stinky." Even so, it was genuinely a good episode.
