Hi! Bacterial Vaginosis is contrary to many's beliefe, not a sexually transmitted disease. What happens is that the regular bacteria that are in your vagina get "swoped" with another type of bacteria. Why this happens nobody quite knows, but factors that increase the risk are; increased sexual activity, change of sexual partner partner, many different partners, menstruation. The fishy smell that you're talking about is brought about by something alkaline (KOH) being added to the discharge by a doctor. It can also be there after sex, because the semen is alkaline, and when it comes into contact with the discarge, the smell appears. It is not dangerous, but there is treatment. Since its brought about by a bacteria, then spesific antibiotics will work. Have your doctor prescribe some for you. In 1/3 of women the symptoms will returne sometime after ending the treatment. In which case you take a new antibiotic treatment.
Good Luck!

BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) is not a STD..it is a overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina. You have normal bacterial in your vagina and so some discharge is normal..if you are not sexually active then is would not be a STD..but BV can be caused by not feeling well (recent flu, do you douche?, certain soaps while bathing, or sometimes we never do figure out what causes it) anyway you must be seen by a doctor so they can examine you and get a swab of your discharge to see what it is..it's not anything to be afraid of..BV usually has a fishy odor so this may be simply yeast which women get all the time..good luck

Ok, kind of feeling like a dope here, but I don't know what BV is, (i'm sure it will come do me and i'll feel really daft). what I can say is, that a cetain amount of discharge is normal. Its creepy at first, but normal. I think you would know if it smelled fishy, or like infection. If it doesn't smell rank, and isn't green, your probably fine. Can you talk to an adult woman about it? I can't think of anything else without more information, but I think your probably safe. If there is any pain or discomfort, or obvious odor that happens, then you should see a dr.
Take care!

Only a doctor can diagnose BV with a culture of the discharges. If you have sex, expecially with multiple partners, it is very possible to get BV, no matter what age you are. You should get tested for it soon, as it is important to treat it as soon as possible.
