The dirty dozen? Yeah, since thats EXACTLY everyones first thought.

If you're on it, count me out.

If it had my closest friends and family, I'd go for it just to have a little more time before we all died. Other than that, I'd stay behind with them and spend our last days or hours or w/e together. Whoever gets to go on the shuttle is dead soon after anyways since there really isn't anywhere to go and not enough food to support that much life on a shuttle for long.

-EDIT-

gwad said "doctor, scientist, policeman, fireman, judge, lawyer, computer specialist, cook, engineer, " ......why??? if they are the only ones left alive and there is no earth then what is the point of those professions?

Setting aside a certain number for the crew and assuming that the space shuttle can make an interplanetary trip to a safe new haven for the survivors of Earth's disaster and deliver them all there alive, then--apart from the crew--the rest should be chosen by lottery.

It's not much of importance to me if I'll die. If it's God's will then so be it. But we have so much to share, us humans, in the other world. There should be a deciding-body who will choose those individuals who are worthy of living. If they will be evacuated to a safer planet, they should be capable of surviving and start a new race of humanity. Scientists maybe.

I think that two really smart scientists should go (one male and one female), two esteemed doctors should go, two models should go, two artists should go, and four athletes should go. Then there would be a good chance that they could start a perfect civilization somehwere else. The athletes could defend everyone, the scientists could figure things out, etc. It could work.
